As you have probably heard, we’ll soon be opening the doors at the new Black Dog Ballroom on New Wakefield Street and we all know what that means, don’t we?! Correct…..one hell of a launch party!

You know how we roll here at the Dog; we really don’t like to mess about. That’s why we gave The Nextmen a call and asked them to play. They said yes. Everybody’s happy.

The eclectic DJ and production duo will be hitting the Underdog’s decks and blasting out a seamless blend of dancehall, drum ‘n’ bass, dubstep, reggae, roots, instrumental and actual hip-hop, soul and soulful low-end boomp, funk & (UK) funky, indie, leftfield, ambient, pop and straight-up party jacking pleasers.

Having worked with artists such as Public Enemy, The Pharcyde, Blackalicious and Morcheeba the London based beat-makers know exactly how to smash a party to smithereens. They will be joined on the bill by our NQ resident, Stuart Richards, and if you are a regular Black Dogger then you will know he will not be afraid to put our brand new Funktion 1 sound system to the test with his unique and varied selection of party beats littered with bass heavy bangers.

We can personally guarantee that those of you who are lucky enough to attend will want us to open a new venue every week.

Krysko of the Warehouse Project has graced the Black Dog decks on a couple of occasions now and last month he found himself on the same bill as our Friday night resident, Stuart Richards.

Stu is well known for banging out bass filled beats in the Dog; he’s gathered quite a following by doing it week in week out. Krysko saw what all the fuss was about and challenged him to a battle.

Never one to back down from a challenge, even from a Manchester legend, Stu accepted and the two will go toe to toe, playing alternately each hour from 10pm ‘til 4am.

This is one night that any self respectin’ party lovin’ music fan should not miss. With tracks pulled from right across the board, these musical minds will be fighting it out and reaching into the outer realms of their record collections ‘til we decide to pull the plug.

Here at Black Dog we thought it would be a good idea to celebrate that fact…….so, it’s National Bread Week April 16th – 22nd and all week we’re going to offer all of you guys and girls bread and butter pudding with custard for just £1.50. You really knead to come and try it!

Thursday 5th sees Luke Unabomber (Homoelectric) team up with Krysko (WHP) to bring you the perfect party beats to start this big weekend as it should, most definitely, go on.

On Friday 6th and Saturday 7th our resident DJs Stuart Richards and Neil Smallridge will work their usual magic, throwing out big sounds that never fail to fill the floor ‘til way past four!

Then, for those of you out there that want to polish off proceedings in style, on Sunday 8th Will TRAMP! (Homoelectric/WHP) is swinging by to give Stu a hand on the ones and twos.

You would be a fool to miss it.

Following the recent success of Krysko (WHP) taking to the decks at our 2nd birthday soiree and our Leap Year Party, he’s going to pop down again to team up with our, popular, resident Friday DJ Stuart Richards and help you lucky party people start your weekend in style.

Ross has been down to the Northern Restaurant & Bar Show to talk to suppliers about our new bar on New Wakefield Street, just off Oxford Road… you may have heard us talking about it?

Well he stopped for a drink with Jonathan Moorish from PPL and who should drop by but Beverley Callard of Coronation Street fame! She of course remembers us from our Kennel Club poster right outside Peter Barlow’s flat.
